Can I convert my Private Visa to Temporary Residence Visa(TRV) or Permanent Residence Visa(RVP) after furnishing documents like Marriage Certificate( to a russian Citizen), Language test , Police Clearance Certificate(PCC) and Passport?
Do I have to go back to India again at any cost and come back to russia for TRV/ RVP ? or I can receive TRV without going to india?

    Hello,
I have kind of a complicated situation here. I am an American citizen, and I worked in Russia as an English teacher on a work visa earlier this year. When my contract expired though, so did my visa, and I had to return to the United States. I have been doing a lot of research, and I want to get the разрешенное на временное проживании (РВП), because with the temporary residency, I can leave and enter the country as often as I want, find a new job without having to form a new visa, and so forth. In general, I would be able to stay in the country even if my contract expires again or I want to get a new job. So with regards to getting the permit, most people tell me that I have to get it at the migration office in Moscow (where I plan on living). However, I read here on the MVD site, “Для получения разрешения на временное проживание иностранный гражданин подает в подразделение по вопросам миграции по месту предполагаемого проживания либо в дипломатическое представительство или консульское учреждение Российской Федерации в государстве своего проживания…” If I am not mistaken, it says that I can form the Russian temporary residence permit at a Russian consulate in the U.S. (my country of residency). My main question is, do you think it is possible to set up a temporary residence permit while I am still in the U.S.? The main reason why I am asking is because it would be a lot easier to just set up my temporary residence permit before I go to Russia than having to set up a seperate visa just to get into Russia, then have to go through the process of getting my temporary residence permit after I get there. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

    • Hi, I’m wondering how you are doing with this process. I am also an American. I’ve been searching and haven’t stumbled across a lot of info for an American going through the process. Many sites seem to just copy text from another site.
